Every building in Surat uses power differently. A bungalow in Vesu, a 12-storey society in Adajan and a weaving unit in Pandesara each need a different design. Choose your property type to see how we approach it.

Net metering in Surat

DGVCL or Torrent Power? We Handle Both

Surat homes and businesses get electricity from one of two suppliers: DGVCL (Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd), the state distribution company for South Gujarat, or Torrent Power, which supplies parts of the city. The name on your electricity bill tells you which one you have.

The net-metering journey is similar for both, but forms, inspection timelines and billing differ. We prepare the application, coordinate the inspection and stay with you until the bi-directional net meter is installed. Compare the two in our Torrent Power vs DGVCL solar guide, or learn how net metering works.

Tip: keep a recent bill handy for your site survey. Your consumer number and sanctioned load decide the system size you can connect.

1

Application & feasibility

We register your rooftop solar request with your DISCOM, and on the PM Surya Ghar portal for homes.

2

Installation

Panels, structure, inverter, earthing and protection are installed by our team.

3

Inspection

DGVCL or Torrent Power inspects the system against the approved design.

4

Net meter & commissioning

A bi-directional meter is fitted and the system is commissioned.

5

Credits on your bill

Units you export are adjusted against units you import on each bill.

Designed for local conditions

Built for Surat’s Heat, Monsoon and Rooftops

A rooftop in Surat faces 40°C summers, heavy monsoon rain and wind, humid air and dust from construction and industry. Our site survey and design account for each of these, so your system keeps performing year after year.

Summer heat

Panels lose some output when they get very hot. We plan tilt, spacing and airflow so modules run cooler in May and June.

Monsoon wind and rain

Structure anchoring and wind-load checks are part of the design, and roof penetrations are sealed to protect against leaks.

Humid air

Connectors, cable routing and junction boxes are planned to stay dry and protected through the humid months.

Shading from buildings

In dense areas, neighbouring towers and water tanks cast shadows. We map shade during the survey before placing panels.

Dust and cleaning

Construction and industrial dust reduce output. Layouts leave safe access for cleaning. See how to clean rooftop solar panels.

Electrical safety

Earthing, lightning protection and AC/DC protection devices are included as part of a safe, DISCOM-compliant installation.

Solar Panel Installation in Surat: Your Questions Answered

Still unsure? Talk to our team or browse our full solar FAQ.

For homes, our published on-grid prices start at ₹70,000–₹85,000 for 1 kW. A 3 kW system costs about ₹2,10,000–₹2,40,000 before subsidy, or roughly ₹1,32,000–₹1,62,000 after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. The final price depends on panel type, structure height, inverter and roof conditions. See the full rooftop solar cost guide.

Look for a company that is approved under PM Surya Ghar, has a local office, visits your site before quoting, handles DGVCL or Torrent Power net metering, and has verifiable reviews. Shree Hari Solar has been based in Surat since 2019 and holds a 4.9 Google rating. Our solar company checklist explains what to compare.

The central PM Surya Ghar subsidy is ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more. Gujarat has also announced a state top-up for homes installing up to 2.18 kW, for systems commissioned on or after 22 October 2026. Read our PM Surya Ghar subsidy guide for Surat.

No. PM Surya Ghar subsidies are for residential consumers and housing societies. Businesses may be able to claim accelerated depreciation on solar assets, which can shorten payback. Please confirm with your chartered accountant.

Installation for a typical home takes about 3–5 days once approvals are in place. The full process, including DISCOM feasibility, inspection and net-meter installation, takes longer and depends on DGVCL or Torrent Power timelines. Commercial and industrial projects can take several weeks.

As a rule of thumb, each 1 kW generates about 120–130 units a month in Surat. Divide your average monthly units by 125 for a starting size, then confirm it at the site survey, as your sanctioned load and roof space also matter. Try the estimator at the top of this page.

Yes, but output drops on heavy cloud and rain days. Higher generation in the sunny months balances this across the year, and net metering credits extra units you export.

Yes. Housing societies can install rooftop solar for common facilities such as lifts, pumps and lighting, and are eligible for ₹18,000 per kW under PM Surya Ghar. Individual flat owners need the society’s permission to use terrace space.
